Course Description: An historical consideration of the most significant philosophies in Western Civilization from Thales to St. Augustine.

Course Goal: To examine the ancient roots of Western Civilization and to develop an appreciation of the economic and political context within which ancient thought developed.

Objectives: To develop an appreciation or our Western cultural heritage, to foster an understanding of philosophical issues, and to enhance the ability to understand and intelligently evaluate arguments.
