Statement on Academic Responsibilities
Responsibilities relzated to Individual Course and College Program Requirements/Policies/Procedures
Students will:
- be familiar with and fulfill all requirements for their courses and programs of study
- maintain a written record of their progress in fulfilling course and program requirements
- be familiar with and ollow course and college policies, including those on academic dishonesty and absenteeism
- be familiar with and follow procedures for fulfilling course schedules and program plans (e.g., adding, withdrawing from, or substituting courses; transferring coursxe credits; changing majoprs/minors/ concentrations)
- initiate meetings with advisors, instructors, and other college personnel to address questions, problems, or concerns related to course and program requirements, policies, and procedures
In-Class Responsibilities
Students will:
- attend all classes and arrive punctually
- if unavoidably late for a class, enter quietly and unobstrusively, and behave in other required ways to minimize distraction
- remain alert and attentive during lectures, discussions, and other class activities
- avoid unnecessary conversations during lectures, discussions, and other class activities
- contribute to class experiences by asking relevant questions, offering relevant examples or vies, adequately answering questions posed by others, engaging in critical and independent thought, and challenging both the instructor and the curriculum materials assigned for the course
- demonstrate courtesy and respect in dealing with instructors and classmates
- recognize and see to understand diverse polints-of-view
Out-of-Class Responsibilities
Students will:
- place academic obligations at the top of the list of college-related priorities
- plan and spend two to three hours out-of-class time in acaqdemic study for every one hour of class atterndance
- thoroughly plan and prepare for classes
- notify the instructor in advance, if possible, or in a timely fashion, if unable to attend a class or remain in the classroom for the entire class meeting because of unavoidable circumstances
- promptly obtain information about material covered and announcements made, if unable to attend a class
- initiate meetings with instructors and classmates to address academic-related questions, problems, or topics of interest
- be familiar with the college's library, computer, and other learning support services; use them responsibly and effectively in fulfilling academic requirements and respect the rights and needs of other users
- use other resources to foster academic and cultural enrichment
- contribute to maintaining an orderly environment on campus that is conducive to learning and studying
Other Policies:
- There will be no make-up exams. If a student misses a test, then he/she will receive a zero for that portion of his/her grade.
- Students are expected to adhere to the University policies concerning academic honesty. Accordingly, one must do his/her own work without the aid of other students, unless instructed otherwise. This prohibits: cheating on exams or claiming authorship for something which has been copied from someone else (plagiarism). Anyone caught cheating in any form, including but not limited to the above, will receive a zero for that assignment.
